In 2010, two grants for doctoral students pursuing their degree in Ukraine on a topic related to Jewish history and culture in Galicia were awarded:

Academic interests include Jewish history of modern period in East Central Europe, history of everyday life and mentality. Volunteer at the Centre for Urban History of East Central Europe.

PhD dissertation topic: "Between tradition and change: Jewish communities of Boryslav and Drohobych, 1850-1898."

PhD dissertation topic: "Joseph Roth's world: Galician period." This work aims at reconstruction of the social life of the Jewish shtetl Brody in the late 19th -- early 20th centuries. A special focus will be given to the Joseph Roth's childhood and youth, which he spent in this shtetl. Part of the research shall analyze one of the central theme's which can be found repeatedly in Roth's oeuvre - namely the nostalgia for the monarchy of the House of Habsburg.
